* If the product does not already have the **purchase format to base unit** conversion set up, you will need to do it then. [See how to convert it](https://support.haddock.app/en/article/convert-ingredients-to-a-base-unit-kg-l-or-units-for-recipe-costings-l3admi/)

6. Enter the **net quantity** used for the ingredient. If needed, you can change the unit of measure in the dropdown, for example from kg to g.

7. Enter the **waste** (the part of the product that is discarded). You can enter it as a percentage (%) or as an absolute amount by selecting it in the field. See our [waste guide](https://software.haddock.app/es/ebook/estoy-hasta-la-merma/?utm_source=web-ebooks&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=ES-EBOOK-MERMA) to find the waste percentage or grams for all foods.

💡 **Note:** The **gross quantity** and the **cost** will be calculated automatically.

8. Click "**Add ingredient**"
