# How does time entry overwrite work?

In **haddock HR**, you can enable an option that allows actual time entries to automatically replace the planned clock-in and clock-out times in a shift. This feature is useful so that the schedule reflects what actually happened.

### How do you enable it?

1. Go to the **Rules** menu.
2. Within Rules, open the **Contracts** section.
3. Edit a contract.
4. Go to the **Time entries** tab.
5. Turn on the option "**Overwrite planned shifts with time entries**".

### What happens when you enable it?

When this option is active, haddock HR will automatically replace the planned shift clock-in and clock-out times with the **actual time entries**, as long as the following conditions are met:

- The time entry is **closed** (that is, it has a clock-in and a clock-out time).
- The time entry has been **approved** by a **manager** or **supervisor**.

Once approved, the schedule will show the actual recorded hours instead of the ones that were initially planned.
