# What are Shift Rotas and what are they for?

**Shift Rotas** are the weekly patterns of **work shifts** (also called "schedules") for **Employees**.

For example, an **Employee**'s **Shift Rota** for a Monday-to-Friday full-time schedule would be 5 workdays and 2 days off (Saturday and Sunday).

In **haddock HR**, **Shift Rotas** linked to **Employees** make it possible to automatically plan **work shifts** for the whole year.

This way, once you have assigned a **Shift Rota** to an **Employee**, you only need to open the planning view and click the "Plan Shift Rotas" button, and you will see the magic happen.
