# What is a Calendar and what is it for?

The Calendar in haddock HR lets you define the default **Day Types** from Monday to Sunday and the **special days** for the entire year.

A special day can be a **holiday**, an **eve of a holiday**, or any other day you need to distinguish from a normal workday.
