# Why can't I delete a shift and how do I deactivate it?

In some cases, when trying to delete a shift, the system does not allow it.

This happens because the shift is **already scheduled or assigned** in the calendar.
To protect the integrity of historical planning, shifts that have been used cannot be deleted.

---

### How to stop a shift from appearing

If you no longer want to use a shift, you can **deactivate it**.

1. Go to **Settings**.
2. Open **Shifts**.
3. Edit the corresponding shift.
4. Turn off the **Active** option.
5. Save the changes.

When you deactivate it:

- The shift will stop appearing in lists and new planning boards.
- It will remain in the history where it has already been used.
