Create Preparations


Preparations are the sub-recipes we add to the final dish; they can be stocks, sauces, dressings, garnishes,...


Use preparations to streamline recipe costing creation.


Start your preparation


  1. Go to the "🍔 Recipe costings" page from the side navigation bar.


  1. Click "New recipe costing".


  1. Click "Preparation".


  1. Enter the basic dish information:
  • Preparation name. Sofrito, mayonnaise, teriyaki sauce...
  • Preparation type. Sofritos, sauces, bases...
  • Quantity. How many units or kg does it yield? This is essential if you want to use it as an ingredient in dishes.


  1. Click "Create preparation".



Add ingredients to your preparation


  1. Open the dish/preparation where you want to add the ingredient.


  1. Go to the "Ingredients" tab.



  1. Click "Add ingredient"



  1. By default, the option to add products is shown, but when you select the button, the option to switch to preparations appears.


💡 We can add preparations inside other preparations




  1. Click the search field, type the name of the product/preparation, and select it.



  • If the product does not already have the purchase format to base unit conversion set up, you will need to do it then. See how to convert it.


  1. Enter the net quantity used for the ingredient.


  1. Enter the waste (the part of the product that is discarded). See our waste guide to find the waste percentage or grams for all foods.


  1. Click "Add ingredient".



Create Dishes


A dish is the final product you sell. It can be a finished plate or any product the customer consumes, such as bread, a drink, or extras.


Start your dish


  1. Go to the "🍔 Recipe costings" page from the side navigation bar.


  1. Click "New recipe costing".



  1. Click "Dish".


  1. Enter the basic dish information:



  • Dish name. Spanish omelette, tuna tataki, brownie...

  • Dish type. Tapas, mains, desserts...

  • Quantity. How many portions does it yield? Or how many kg do you produce? This is important for calculating the selling price.


  1. Click "Create dish".



Add ingredients to your dish



  1. Open the dish/preparation where you want to add the ingredient.


  1. Go to the "Ingredients" tab.



  1. Click "Add ingredient"



  1. By default, the option to add products is shown. To add a preparation, select that option.



  1. Click the search field, type the name of the product/preparation, and select it.



  • If the product does not already have the purchase format to base unit conversion set up, you will need to do it then. See how to convert it


  1. Enter the net quantity used for the ingredient.
