I can't delete a group โ€” causes and solution๐Ÿงฉ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

This article explains why you cannot delete a group and what steps to take to unblock the deletion.

Why can't I delete a group? ๐Ÿšซ

Usually the system prevents a group from being deleted because it is in use. The most common reasons are:

  • There are planning/shifts associated with that group, linked to some employee, whether they are active or inactive.
  • Some employee (active or not) still has that group linked in their profile.

As long as any of these references exist, deletion is not allowed.

How to fix it step by step โœ…

  1. Check the employees linked to the group

Go to Employees and filter by the group. If anyone has it assigned, change their group to another valid one (or remove it if appropriate).

  1. Remove the shifts from the group in the plans

Open the Plan, filter by the group, and delete the shifts/plans that are still associated with that group (including future and, if applicable, past ones).

If an inactive employee has old shifts with that group, they also block deletion: remove them.

  1. Verify and try again

After cleaning up employees and shifts, go back to Groups, select the group, and click Delete.

Frequently asked questions โ“

I have an employee who has been deactivated with old shifts from the group. Does that block deletion?

Yes. Even if the employee is inactive, if they have shifts with that group, they prevent it from being deleted. Delete those shifts and try again.

Is removing the group from the employee profile enough?

Not always. You must also delete the shifts in the plan associated with the group.

I have done the steps and it still won't let me.

Check that there are no future assignments or recurring planning items with that group left. Make sure no employee, active or inactive, has it linked.

Summary ๐Ÿ’ก

To delete a group:

  1. Remove the group from all employee profiles.
  2. Delete the shifts that use that group.
  3. Delete the group.

If any reference remains, the system will not let you.
