What is a forecast?
A forecast is a prediction we make about the future based on data we already have. ๐ It is like looking into a crystal ball ๐ฎ, but using numbers and logic instead of magic.
Imagine you have a store ๐๏ธ. Every day you sell T-shirts ๐, shoes ๐, or caps ๐งข. If you see that over the last few months you always sell more T-shirts in summer โ๏ธ, you can predict that this coming summer you will also sell many T-shirts. That is making a forecast.
What is a forecast for? ๐ค
- To prepare better: If you know you will sell more, you can order more stock ๐ฆ.
- To manage your money better: You know when to save ๐ฐ and when to invest ๐ ๏ธ.
- To make smart decisions: Like hiring more staff ๐ฉโ๐ผ๐จโ๐ผ during peak season.
How is a forecast made? ๐ง ๐ ๏ธ
- Look at past data ๐: Sales, expenses, customers...
- Detect patterns ๐: Do sales go up in December? ๐
- Make a prediction โ๏ธ: Based on those patterns and what you know may happen.
Important: A forecast is not guessing at random. ๐ฒ It is using real information to make a better estimate. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we do not, but it is always better to be prepared. ๐
